New Global Poll to find "7 Wonders of Nature"
A new global poll is to take place in 2011 to decide the new "7 Wonders of Nature". The process is already underway with 26 finalists already shortlisted by a panel of experts from over 200 locations suggested by the public over the last year. These finalists include well known favourites such as the Grand Canyon, Australia's Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon rain forest, but also less globally renown sites such as the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland and the Jeita Grotto in Lebanon.
The organisers undertook a similar project two years ago, in which the public were asked to decide the 7 Greatest Man-Made Wonders. One hundred million people voted in that poll and organisers are anticipating up to 1 Billion votes for this latest venture. Anyone can vote, either via the Internet or by telephone and the poll is being publicised across the globe. A large number of votes have already been counted from across Asia, North America and Europe.
The project is run by the organisation 7 New Wonders. They aim to promote environmental awareness and conservation of natural sites, by getting people from all walks of life to engage with nature.
